Equix®

INDICATIONS

Equix® is a broad spectrum antiparasitic composed by two drugs with different activities to cover the vast majority of parasite infestation in horses.
Moxidectin belongs to the group of milbemycins, effective for the treatment of most equine parasitosis caused by nematodes and arthropods.
To complete the spectrum of activity, praziquantel -a pyrazinoquinolone- has specific activity against equine cestodes.
Moxidectin has proved to be 100% effective against Strongylus vulgaris in their adult stage, S. edentatus, Triodontophorus spp., and 22 species of strongyles in horse’s small intestine. It has also proved to be 100% effective against S. edentatus and Oxyuris equi in their larvae stage, and 94% effective against the adult stage of the latter and the larvae stage of S. vulgaris.
Nematodes: Strongylus vulgaris, Strongylus edentatus and Strongylus equinus, Triodontophorus spp., Cyathostomum spp., Trichostrongylus axei, Parascaris equorum, Oxyuris equi, Strongyloides westeri, Habronema muscae, Draschia megastoma and larvae stages of Onchocerca spp.
Its high antiparasitic effectiveness is not only achieved during the intestinal stage of parasites, but also during the larval migration stages of the Strongylidea, Ascaridoidea and Rhabditoidea families.
Moxidectin reduces Strongylus egg count 12-16 weeks after treatment. Arthropods: Gasterophilus intestinalis, Gasterophilus nasalis and Gasterophilus hemorrhoidalis.
For the treatment of arthropods, effectiveness achieved was 96% against Gasterophilus intestinalis at a dose of 0.4-0.5 mg/kg, also showing activity against larvae stages of the parasite while in horse’s stomach or intestine walls.
Praziquantel is effective against the tree species of cestodes that affect horses: Anoplocephala perfoliata, Anoplocephala magna and Paranoplocephala mamillana.

Directions For Use: DOSAGE
Moxidectin: 0.4 mg/kg of body weight (400 μg/kg).
Praziquantel: 2.5 mg/kg of body weight.
Horses: 2.06 g of paste per 100 kg of body weight.

DOSING INTERVAL:
Dosing interval should be adjusted according to egg count results (EPG), egg types, and larvae culture and types (L3).
Currently, should strict parasite control programs be applied, they should be based on the effectiveness against Cyathostoma, Parascaris equorum and Cestodes.
In such cases, we recommend the administration of Equix® every 13 weeks.
Fixed dosing intervals do not guarantee parasite surveillance nor treatment effectiveness.

DURATION OF TREATMENT:
Duration of treatment should be adjusted according to egg count results (EPG), egg types, and larvae culture and types (L3).
Fixed dosing intervals do not guarantee parasite surveillance nor treatment effectiveness.
Duration of treatment will be subject to parasite type, parasite life cycle, habitat and host susceptibility.

Recommendation for Use:
Dosage:

Horses:
Ivermectin: 200 mcg/kg of body weight.
Praziquantel: 2.5 mg/kg of body weight.
1 g of paste per 60 kg of body weight.
